We are pleased to announce that our lab has received funding to conduct a randomized controlled trial of an electronic case management system in patients who present to The Ottawa Hospital with Long COVID, or post-COVID syndrome.

This study will allow us to determine the best way to deliver care to patients suffering the effects of COVID-19 long after their initial infections. These symptoms may include typically include fatigue, followed by shortness of breath, cognitive issues such as “brain fog” and heart problems. Other symptoms may also include headaches, muscle and joint pain, persistent cough and psychiatric conditions.

The goals of this study are to answer the following questions:

  • How does adding an electronic case management system to usual care impact quality of life for patients with Long COVID? What factors predict outcomes at 3 months in patients with Long COVID?

  • Does the use of an electronic case management system affect Long COVID symptoms?

  • Is the addition of an electronic case management system to usual care for for Long COVID cost effective?

  • How can we best implement an electronic case management system as part of a personalized rehabilitation program for patients with Long COVID?

We are very thankful to our generous funders, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, as well as fellow investigators and research team members.
